  • Resource was intentionally and permanently deleted
  • Want to inform clients to remove their references/links
  • Stronger signal than 404 - tells caches to purge

  • Resource intentionally deleted
  • API endpoint retired
  • Content permanently removed

When to Use
  • Resource doesn't exist at this URL
  • When you don't want to reveal if a resource ever existed
  • Use 410 Gone if the resource was explicitly deleted
